Sony Ericsson No Comments

After the 2008 Mobile World Congress in February, Sony Ericsson announced their new naming system comprising of four characters, the first character denoting the “Series”, the second one the “Range/Class”, the third one the “Version” and the last one the “Form Factor”.

So having C for series denotes a cyber-shot, S a snapshot, G a generation web platform member, W a walkman, R radio.

9 or 8 range class denotes a high end device; 7,6 or 5 denotes a mid range level and so on.

Version starts on 0 and gets incremented on every new revision.

A 0,1 or 2 form factor denotes a candy bar ; 3 or 5 denotes a slider; 6, 7 or 8 denotes a clamshell.

To keep the information secret and to prevent leaks Sony Ericsson uses phones codenames during development. All codenames are girl names, and some have been taken from the female players of the Sony Ericsson sponsored tennis tournament, WTA.
