Three main culprit channel partners Kalpesh Purohit, Raju Purohit and Vikas, whowere running their business for the last six months under the name of 'AppleInfosysÂ', have been found guilty for fraud amounting Rs. 25 Lakhs in Ahmedabad ITmarket. The trio suddenly in two days purchased PCs and peripherals from differentchannel partners in Ahmedabad, making PDC payments to them and absconded with thematerial leaving behind their empty rented office .The cheques bounced for lack ofsufficient funds and their whereabouts are not yet known ,Understanding the wholesituation the dealers realized that they have been cheated and immediately filed apolice FIR against the two defaulters. The complete incidence took place a weekback.
Around 20 channel partners have been affected due to this fraud includingdistributors, sub and dealers. Loses suffered ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs.1.5 lakh.
Speaking to it VAR news, Vice President and Media Spokesperson, ACMA (AhmedabadComputer Merchants Association), Kaushik Pandya said, "The association intervened assoon as it came to know that such type of matter has arisen and so many dealersincluding association members and non-members have been affected by the crime."
He added that the association is ensuring that a complete follow up of the case isdone and they are open to any kind of help related to the matter. Pandya informedthat the three defaulters were trying to transport the material from their residenceto the railway station in rickshaws but there is an Octroi Naka on the route and thematerial was seized by the Octroi Authority there, as they demanded the Octroi taxon these goods. The material is lying with Octroi Authority right now.
A new situation has arisen now because the police are asking the Octroi authoritiesto release the material and hand it over to them as it is no more a non-tax payeecase but has become a criminal case. So, the tug of war is on between the two butthe decision will be taken soon within a day or two. Once the material will bereleased from Octroi Authorities, a complete estimation can be made how muchmaterial is there and what is the cost of the same. However, the two defaulters arestill missing and police is searching for them.
When asked what steps the association is taking to avoid such incidences in future,Pandya answered, "We are definitely concentrating more on such issues now and planto formulate certain guidelines like reducing the amount of credits to a certainextent so that even if such kind of situation arises at least the person will sufferleast loses, as our business is highly credit based and it can be very difficult todo business and grow if we don't provide credits. A system can be established inwhich one can only do business with the association members. We may hire an outsideagency to gather all the personal and professional information of the channelpartners and out of them credits will be given to only those who satisfy all theterms and conditions to be fulfilled in order to apply for credits."
