The NSR is a centralised database of employees of IT/BPO firms set up by theNational Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), in associationwith the National Securities Depository, to verify an employee s credentials, withbackground checks.
As many as 43 IT companies including Accenture, Dell, Genpact, HCL-BPO, HP,i-flex, Infosys, Mphasis, Satyam, TCS, Wipro and Zensar have already signed up.
Like registering a share in demat... In fact, Pune-based Zensar and Mphasis have made NSR registration mandatory fortheir employees, while others are recommending their workforce to join the league.
When contacted, Zensar CEO Ganesh Natrajan confirmed the move. Talking to MumbaiMirror, he explained that the NSR is an employee-friendly measure to minimise anymisuse of an employee s identity. The NSR is like registering a share through aDemat account. Currently, we are only asking our high-ranking officials to join theleague. But, eventually, the company will implement it across the workforce, hesaid.
A spokesman at Bangalore-based Wipro Technologies also said the company isrecommending its staff to be members of the NSR. It is still optional at our end,though the response is very encouraging, he added.
Even Genpact and Accenture are advising their employees to join up.

IT professionals registered with the NSR willhave an edge over those who are not, said Veena Gundavelli, CEO and president ofSiti Corporation, a talent acquisition firm.
But IT hiring company Kenexa India s managing director Raghuveer Sakuru felt thatawareness about NSR is still in the nascent stage and it will take at least fiveyears to work properly in the IT field because many professionals still do not wantto share their personal details.
If the NSR is made compulsory for IT professionals, it will make a world ofdifference, and at a faster rate, Sukuru stated.
Over 5 lakh expected to register by DecAccording to Nasscom, the initiative has reached a substantial mass with theregistration for the NSR touching the 1,25,000 mark as of July 2007.
The target is to add over 3.75 lakh employees of IT services and BPO firms to thepresent 1.25 lakh NSR list by end-2007, Nasscom president Kiran Karnik told MumbaiMirror.
