Toronto, Ontario - June 6, 2006 - Blacksmith3Dintroduces the latest update to their software line. The update adds newfunctionality to it's 3D painting capabilities, which includes support forsuper-high resolution texture maps (up to 8192x8192 in size). Previously, thetexture size was limited to the maximum texture size supported by the user's videocard. Blacksmith3D-Paint now utilizes a new technique that allows it to stillharness the power of OpenGL acceleration, while overcoming the limitations imposedby the video drivers.

Previously, all painting operations where done in videomemory only, imposing limitations on the features that we wanted to employ. Blacksmith3D-Morph allows the user to reshape medium and high resolutionpolygon models with extreme ease and speed. The soft selection based work-flow makesit possible to deform models smoothly, creating organic shapes effortlessly withouthaving to consider individual vertices or polygons.
Blacksmith3D-Paint is a true 3D painting solution, allowing the user to applytextured brush strokes directly to UV mapped objects. Painting across UV seams isdone effortlessly. With Blacksmith3D-Paint's touchup brushes, it is even possible toblur or smudge a texture across a UV seam.
CompatibilitySince Blacksmith3D-Suite relies heavily on the OpenGL API, and the vast array ofvideo cards and drivers in the marketplace, it has always been a challenge gettingthe software to run consistently on as many hardware configurations as possible. Agreat effort has been put forward in this update to increase compatibility with asmany video cards as possible, increasing the pool of potential users.
