Conference Bay goes global

Whilst the founders of Conference Bay wanted to focus the firstyear of operations on Asia Pacific, it became clear very soon that the site hadglobal appeal: We received e-mails from conference organisers from all over theworld and decided to open up to any English language conference worldwide in orderto satisfy this demand. We now have conferences listed in more than 30 countries and70 cities. In the 6 months of operations we have had more than 600 conferenceslisted, which is much more than we had expected , says Arnout Mostert, Founder & CEOof Conference Bay. The new website was developed because we found that too many people saw us aspurely a listing of events , says Arnout. Conference Bay offers a unique feature in addition to its listing of conferences bytopic and by location: anyone can make a bid for a seat at a conference by statingthe price they re willing to pay. It s pretty much take it or leave it for theconference organiser, and so far we have mostly seen take it , says Arnout. Thebidding concept solves the problem of unsold seats at conferences, which occurs atmost events. Conference organisers want to fill as many seats as they can in thelast few weeks before the event starts, which often leads them to employ callcenters or send out mass emails. With the ConferenceBid system that was developedby Conference Bay, organisers get to pick the bids they find most interesting (theyget to see the job title, industry and work country of the bidding party) and herebyincrease not only their revenues but also the diversity of their events. Theaverage successful bid lies somewhere between 40-60% of the full ticket price , addsFrank, which we think is a very fair amount for a last minute offer. Both theorganiser and the delegate are better off and so far we have only heard verypositive reactions. Many people who otherwise would not visit a conference are nowbecoming more interested in doing so .
