The Indian IT Act 2000 provides legal recognition of electronic transactions anddigital signatures. Section 5 of the Act gives legal recognition to digitalsignatures. At the moment, use of digital signatures is undertaken by sectors suchas banking and financial services, online stock-trading portals and engineeringorganizations. The Government of India is stressing on e-governance as an effectivedelivery channel of all government services to citizens. As a result, severalGovernment Organizations have undertaken the process of shifting their workflow toelectronic mode.
