The Gartner consultancy has recommended the installation ofpersonal firewalls, at least, across all corporate laptops and ideally all desktopsas well. Gartner's recommendation, reported by TechWeb, responds to the growingnumber of vulnerabilities in Windows operating systems. This means that companiesconstantly have to apply the patches released to workstations and laptops inparticular.
Gartner has also brought attention to the delay in applying these patches. Onaverage, companies take from between six and 18 months to apply patches after theyare released and for this reason, corporate computers are continuously runningunnecessarily high risks. Gartner believes that installing personal firewalls,firstly in laptops and then desktops, should be a priority for companies to reduceunlimited exposure to the Internet and prevent unauthorized running of executablefiles Internet.
