Ramaraj is a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the University of Madras and an MBAfrom the IIM, Calcutta. Beginning his career in Sales and Marketing, Ramaraj went onto pioneer the retail marketing of computers in India by establishing Computer Pointin 1984. He was a Founder Director of Microland Ltd before a stint in cellulartelephony as Director, Sterling Cellular up to 1996
Ramaraj was recognized as the  Evangelist of the YearÂ' at the India Internet WorldConvention in September 2000. And in 2001, in a CNET.com poll in India, Ramaraj wasvoted the IT Person of the Year 2000. He was invited by the UN Secretary-General,Kofi Annan to be a member of UNÂ's Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG)
