The IEEE is the largest technical professional body in the world. It sponsorsscholarships, awards, fellowships and student paper contests for all levels ofstudy. IEEE activities in Kerala have entered the 30th year, with more than 1,500members spread across the State. Since its inception, the section has been active inorganizing national and international seminars on various engineering topics. Thesection has a Computer Society Chapter, a Power engineering Society Chapter, a jointChapter on Industry Applications & Industrial Electronics Societies and aCommunication Society Chapter. Two affinity groups, IEEE Gold and IEEE Women inEngineering also function under the Kerala branch. Student branches have beenestablished in 20 Engineering Colleges.
Amarnath Raja is an active member of IEEE and has received special mention in theIEEE 2005 Annual report for his technological and humanitarian efforts in the AsianTsunami Relief. He helped in creating the NGO Co-ordination & Resource Centre(NCRC). He continues to be a steering committee member of NCRC. He is also aManaging Committee Member of the Computer Society of India (CSI), Trivandrum Chapterand an active promoter of Open Source Technology.
