In a move to control the rising grey market for memory modules, Kingston Technologyis pulling up its socks to address the parallel import menace in India. The parallelimports and grey markets account for 50-60 percent of the total memory business.
The vendor is planning to tackle parallel imports by introducing India specificpackaging and warranty for its products through its authorized channel and alsoplans to shortly introduce Kingston service centers, which will have the capabilityto check for non-genuine Kingston parts.
The company has already started shipping India specific packaging and is lookingforward to introduce warranty cards through its authorized channel.
Speaking to it VAR news, Country Manager, India, Kingston Technology, RajeshPanicker said, "Kingston has already started shipping India specific packaging, weare looking at introducing warranty cards through our authorized channel, which willbe needed to claim warranty and other services. At the moment, our priority is toprovide warranty to all our genuine products."
Kingston is also planning to open independent service centers. Giving details on it,Panicker said, "There is an elaborate plan from Kingston in terms of service for theIndian channel who will buy from our authorized partners. We plan to open servicecenters throughout the country in a couple of months. We plan to open our servicecenters in a phased manner, looking at our sales pattern, customer base andproximity to cityclusters."
Each of these service centers will be equipped to distinguish non- genuine Kingstonparts, apart from this there will be channel trainings and awareness campaigns todistinguish genuine Kingston parts.
