Alba Spectrum spokesmen Sandro Marques and Riccardo Lanzuolo define Modificationsand Extensions:Â Modifications are changes done in the standard E-business suite objects or code.For example, a customer gets a database trigger from Oracle Applications databaseand makes some changes in the code. When customers follow this approach it is verydifficult to identify the changes that have been done in the Oracle Applications,and this will affect future upgrades. Â Extensions are components developed by customer, using the development featuresprovided by Oracle within the E-business Suite. Oracle has provided guidelines andstandards for creating extensions. It is extremely recommended that those arefollowed; it will certify that the new objects (extensions) are kept separate fromstandard E-business components.
For Oracle Financials we recommend you to stay with Extensions, when designing andimplementing your custom logic, with generic Oracle DB and application developmentwith JDeveloper and Java you can deploy both approaches.If you deployed Modifications, you will need customization analysis to upgrade yourcustom piece to the new version of Oracle Applications/Oracle E-Business Suite.
