This is the first stage of QuestÂ's plan to provide broad functionality to supportMicrosoft SharePoint Products and Technologies. Later this year, Quest plans tointroduce capabilities to deliver robust management and reporting, support MicrosoftExchange Public Folders-to-Microsoft SharePoint-based migration and provide granularcontent recovery. These capabilities are being designed to provide IT stakeholderswith optimal management, reporting, and control of their SharePoint-based resources.
Because SharePoint Products and Technologies are so easy to use, employees arecollaborating more than ever, said David Waugh, vice president, productmanagement, Quest Software.  TheyÂ're creating their own Web sites where they postdocuments, share information and exchange ideas  all without the assistance of IT. According to Gartner, in 2004 MicrosoftÂ's worldwide portal product market sharegrew 150% based on new license revenue.1 While this growth is a great testament tothe value SharePoint technologies provide, until now, IT has not had an efficientand cost-effective way to compile information about SharePoint usage across thewhole organization. The first step in managing any piece of infrastructure isidentifying what exists, where it exists and how itÂ's being used.Â
Quest Discovery Wizard for SharePoint quickly and automatically searches allservers, site collections and sites within an organizationÂ's network for everyinstallation of SharePoint, allows users to explore their SharePoint resources bybrowsing through sites and portal content, and gathers critical data about thediscovered inventory. The product also generates easy-to-read HTML reports  providing the information IT managers need in an actionable format. These reportscontain server metrics and site details, including site size, author, lastmodification date and how many users access information on the sites.
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server 2003 enableenterprises to seamlessly connect users, teams and knowledge so that people can takeadvantage of relevant information across business processes to help them work moreefficiently, said Seth Patton, group product manager, Information Worker Group atMicrosoft.  SharePoint is fast becoming an industry standard, and we are pleased tosee Quest Software adding even more value to the Microsoft collaboration platform.Â
