Ms H Farmer and Mr M Doherty, owners of Researchowl.com havedevised a plan to test the real power of viral marketing.
They have developed a blog called LaughWithResearchowl that already has over 70funny jokes, pictures, cartoons and downloads received via email over the lastcouple of years.
They believe that everyone should 'take time out to smile" and theLaughWithResearchowl blog enables people to do just that. The logic being who canresist sending a link to a site that makes them smile to their friends. After allfunny content has a tendency to spread like wildfire across the Internet.
But the real test lies in the fact as to whether people will see enough value in thehumorous content provided (and links to other funny sites) to look into who isbehind it.
Really the owners are banking on the two following facts making a good marriage:1)Everyone likes a little humor; and2)Searching the web is the second most popular activity on the Internet.
Researchowl's service is actually providing people with personalized web searchesdetailing the direct URL links to relevant information relating to their searchquery.
So as the LaughWithResearchowl site is developed, how many people will see the hardwork and effort that is put into the blog and look into who is behind it?
Or how many people will ignore the subtle advertising methods and just take the siteat face value?
Time and worldwide distribution will tell.
