Walnut Creek, CA, (EXPRESS PRESS RELEASE) Oct 29, 2007 - Growingup in a small town in the State of Hawaii the founder of SocialVote.com neverthought he would be in a position to impact his country. At one time an avidfollower of politics and current events, Arnott found himself slowly starting todrift away. After 9/11 the country looked to its' leaders to make our world rightagain. After the endless bad news on the war, people losing their jobs, and an utterfeeling of discontentment, Arnott decided it was easier to just unplug.
"I used to be glued to the 24 hour news networks to see what was happening next. After a while, all I saw was bad news, corruption, war, and despair. So I decided itwas just better to turn it off."
After years of disconnect, he tried to reinvigorate his thirst for what was going onwith his country, and around the world. "I turned on the TV, and after about an hourof hearing about Anna Nicole Smith I was ready to pull my hair out. I'm mean it'stragic, and it is news, but hours on end? Right then and there I decided thatsomething needed to be done."
SocialVote.com was born out of this need for truth, the need for the common folk tohave a say in what others read and believe. SocialVote uses a popular web 2.0technique that allows users to post and then vote on political news. It's a trulydemocratic way to make and consume news. "I'm not going to let some multi billiondollar cooperation tell me who I need to vote for. I want an open exchange ofinformation and ideas that are unbiased, from my friends, neighbors, and peoplearound the word", says Arnott.
Along with the website, SocialVote is available as a Facebook application thatallows users to vote on their favorite candidates for President, and then invitetheir friends to do the same. "This will be a truly unique way to see how thepolitical process will work on a digital medium. After the election is over we canlook at the data and see how close it came to what really happened at the polls."
To have fun with the politics surrounding the election, the SocialVote team includedcomedian Stephen Colbert, who recently announced that he would be a presidentialcandidate. Along with all the serious stuff that people need to know about thecandidates, the Facebook app has some funny tidbits, like the fact that DennisKucinich has a few family pets: Harry the beagle-basset, Lucie the beagle and Georgethe cocker spaniel. Did you know that Barack Obama is a smoker?
Will the folks at SocialVote make a difference in the 2008 election? I know thefounders would like to think so... well what are you waiting for? Get to the virtualpolls and vote for the candidate of your choice. The SocialVote application can beadded at http://apps.facebook.com/socia lvote, and the SocialVote site is athttp://socialvote.com.
