Fenwick, Ontario (July 11, 2007) Web designers everywhere havebeen frustrated with the seemingly endless complexity of CSS (Cascading StyleSheets), the dominant technology used to control web site designs on the web today.Skybound Software aims to address their problem with StyleSpread, a high-end CSSediting tool. The current tools are essentially text-based editing systems and/or an add commandsvia point and click system. StyleSpread has taken a radically different approach bymaking the software work akin to a spreadsheet. The company says that thespreadsheet approach has resulted in a number of new possibilities that would eitherbe impossible or excessively difficult to implement in a text editor, such as thesoftware s unique ability to simplify CSS. During our research, we found that CSS is a bit of a black box for many CSSdesigners, especially newer ones. It s almost as if these designers are takingrandom shots in the dark, trying random styling commands and hoping to eventuallyend up at the desired result. , said Skybound Software s president, Paul Young. Our software helps designers to better understand what their CSS is doing, allowingthem to tweak their designs and track down problems faster. Other tools such as the Firebug extension for Mozilla, and Microsoft s InternetExplorer Developer Toolbar already allow designers to perform CSS diagnostics,however, StyleSpread allows the diagnostics, the editing, and the simplification tooccur all in one place. This results in less application switching and greaterproductivity, says the company.Skybound is currently taking orders for the licenses of the software on theproduct s web site, www.stylespread.com.
