With over 200 enhancements, version 9 represents a significant upgrade infunctionality, with particular areas of development including slideshow diskcreation, digital camera format support and performance optimization.
The most powerful addition in the update is the creation of auto-playing slideshowCD's and DVD's from a selection of image and video files. Full support is includedfor multiple background music files, descriptive captions and over 160 transitioneffects.
Format support has been further enhanced to include raw image files from popularcameras, including Canon, Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and Minolta, XJPEG 128bit AESEncrypted JPEG Images and Dicom Medical Imaging Format.
Image batch conversion and editing has been completely overhauled with a simplerinterface for selection of conversion functions and more control over thespecification of the output format and filenames.
Other editing improvements include a new function to instantly add realistic photoframes to your images.
Multimedia functionality has also been improved with features aimed at digital musiccollectors. A new MP3 and WMA batch renaming tool automatically names files basedon their embedded music fields (genre, artist, song title, etc) and a "Search forSong Lyrics" function uses the embedded fields to return the lyrics for the currentfile.
A "Ratings" toolbar allows users to rank their images and multimedia files. Ratingscan be used to reorder files by preference or to hide those of a particular rating.
The database now also records which files are viewed the most often, providinganother avenue for the quick location of files that a user finds most interesting.
Version 8 is now significantly faster due to optimizations of many databasefunctions including searching and keyword insertion. Thumbnails are now loaded in aseparate background thread so the user interface is not held up during theircreation and rendering.
Other thumbnail improvements include a new "Large Thumbnails" file display mode,allowing users to quickly scroll through all their images at a viewable size, andnew options to display file information with the thumbnails (size, date, dimensions,etc).
A number of enhancements have been made to the keyword addition functionality tospeed up the cataloguing of a multimedia collection. These include the ability tocut, copy and paste keywords and dragging of keywords and dropping them onto files.
New automatic keyword options also allow users to add common digital camera fields(camera model, exposure time, etc) as keywords when adding new files to theirdatabase.
Other enhancements include improved control of image captions during a slideshow,such as font styling and the display of digital camera data, XP themed controlsthroughout the application, red-eye removal without requiring the selection of theeyes and more control over the function of the mouse wheel.
