In Social Networks Around The World the different online communities were splitinto 6 categories: business, friendship, dating, niche-, video & photo- and mobilenetworks.
Furthermore they were subdivided per region and per country, underlining theenormous differences between different cultures with regards to the use of socialnetwork tools. Niche communities are by far the most popular, followed bycommunities for friends.
Surprisingly, only 114 out of the 1,000 networks that were researched, areprofessional by nature and half of those are based in Europe.
