The Averell Harriman Awards honor companies and individuals whose internationalbusiness achievements highlight the importance of international trade to theeconomic vitality of the Hudson Valley. A startup in 2002, Symbio Technologies washonored in the  New to International category for its global distribution and salesefforts in Australia, Canada, Chile, Israel, Mexico, Pakistan, South Africa and theU.K. The award was presented on May 22, 2007 at the Tappan Hill Mansion inTarrytown.
 The Westchester County Association (WCA) and its World Trade Council is pleased torecognize and honor Symbio Technologies as a young and entrepreneurial company thathas made its mark on the world stage, said Amy Allen, managing director of advocacyand international business for the WCA.
 In just a few short years, Symbio Technologies has spread its wings from NewRochelle to reach to Europe, Asia, Australasia and South America, Ms. Allen said.  Symbio was recognized in the  New to InternationalÂ' category, as internationaldistribution and sales have certainly become part and parcel of the companyÂ'sbusiness model.Â
Gideon Romm, co-founder with Roger Del Russo of Symbio Technologies, said hiscompany  was honored to receive this award and be in the company of Nokia, KonicaMinolta and other world-class companies in Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
 While Symbio started in Westchester, said Mr. Del Russo,  we immediately recognizedthe importance of the international market, and are very proud that our products arebeing sold and used around the world.Â
The award was the second for Symbio Technologies in less than six months. InNovember it received an Export Achievement Certificate from the U.S. Department ofCommerce, with Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey citing the company as  an excellentexample of how U.S. small and medium-sized businesses have worked to increase theirbottom line through exports that support jobs here at home.Â
