With Mobile Manager, businesses or service providers can immediately secure lost orstolen devices remotely, from Mobile Manager's web-based application. The device canbe wiped and locked over-the-air, preventing sensitive corporate or personal datastored on the device from being accessed by unauthorised users. Also available withthe software release is the ability to augment the wipe and lock feature with anoptional screaming sound sent OTA to the device as a sound file.
David Wood, EVP Research, at Symbian commented: "OTA is becoming increasinglyimportant in the enterprise world where companies are arming their employees withsmartphones which often contain confidential data including corporate email, Wordand Excel documents and remote access to corporate database information.Synchronica's solution provides a simple and effective way to protect corporate dataand the personal privacy of smartphone owners."
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica added: "The partnership with Symbian is astrategic move for Synchronica to further increase the reach of Mobile Manager inthe smartphone market. Symbian has a great reputation as leaders in this space, withover 70 % share of the smartphone market, and 82 million smartphones shipped todate."
Other device management solutions require businesses to install and maintainexpensive and complex software solutions behind the corporate firewall and are oftenovercomplicated and not designed for IT administrators. By contrast, Synchronica'sweb-based Mobile Manager has been developed specifically to be offered by mobileoperators and service providers using the Software as a Service (SaaS) model. Thismodel also suits smaller companies which may choose to opt for a self-care devicemanagement solution hosted by specialist service providers. With this model, alsonow available on Symbian OS, companies can access their own web portal but don'thave any large up-front investment costs. Larger companies can also install MobileManager behind the corporate firewall and integrate it with their IT infrastructure.
Mobile Manager's security features for Symbian smartphones are availableimmediately. Synchronica sells directly as well as through partners to largercompanies and to service providers such as mobile operators intending to offerMobile Manager to their subscribers. SME's can opt to purchase a fully orpart-hosted OTA device management service from service providers, rather than buyingthe software outright.
