Atlanta, GA. April 14, 2008 -- Move over Virgin Mary toast,ghost cane, and Illinois cornflake. Sometimes fetching thousands of dollars forcreative ebay sellers, strange items listed in the "Weird Stuff" category on theworld's most popular auction site just keep rolling on in.
Now it's a coupon entitling the winning bidder to a mutant strawberry. A Georgiatravel agent is hoping a buyer will grab her coupon redeemable for the bizarre berryshe found in a batch of strawberries bought at a local Sam's Club.
According to Ann Lombardi, one of Atlanta's The Trip Chicks , the unusual strawberrybears "a weird resemblance to two penguins kissing, right down to the birds' wingsand profiles."
Apparently while washing the berries destined for her daily smoothies, Lombardispotted the "kissing penguins" at the bottom of the container. "I decided then andthere to rescue the berry from what would have been a certain death at the hands ofmy blender," she explains.
Though quick to point out the "kissing penguins" strawberry is meant only to be aconversation piece and definitely not part of someone's shortcake or sundae, thelong-time travel agent still hasn't figured out how to preserve the bodacious berryfor safe shipping to a new owner. Lombardi has only until April 18th, the auctionend date, to make sure the strawberry travels well. The next day she leaves toEurope on a business trip.
