Overview
EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition is a free and powerful data recovery software that promise to solve all your data loss problems - recover files emptied from Recycle Bin, or lost due to software crash, formatted or damaged hard drive, virus attack, lost partition and other unknown reasons under Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / 2008 / 7.

Installation
The setup wizard will guide you through the installation process which is quite simple. One thing to note here though: like with any other recovery tool you have to be careful: it is highly recommended NOT to install the software on the same drive that you want to recover data from. This is a very important detail and I am glad the setup let me know about it.

Recovering data
Once the application starts you find a very nice and friendly user interface. Three wizards are available to recover data, depending on how the data got lost. You start with the soft one (files deleted and emptied from Recycle Bin), followed by a complete data recovery wizard for files lost due to format, system crashes viruses, ... The last wizard available deals with full partition recovery, which is more than you can ask from a free data recovery solution.

The fist wizard, Deleted File Recovery, the option recommended for most users. The search is very fast and most of the lost files are found. If you still cannot find you files you can go with the other two recovery options, but the search will be extended and you will have to wait much more time.

The features of the software is amazing, it is able to recover data from lost or deleted partitions and even recover your files after partitioning errors or crashed hard drives. Extended support for file systems includes FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS/NTFS5 and EXT2/EXT3.

Things we liked

• very friendly user interface; the three recovery wizards available are very easy to use
• the basic recovery option is really fast and finds most of the lost files
• extended file system support
• recover files from formatted partition with original file names and storage paths
• you can continue the data recovery process at any time you want and with any edition of the software

A full online manual is available from the application through the help button. A FAQ section is also available for free version and you can get more quality support for the paid version.

Final words
This software is really great, but there is one "small" problem. With the free edition we've tested you can only recover up to 1 GB of data. If you lost the most important document in your computer then you got the right tool, but if you want to recover a bunch of movies you deleted by mistake last week ... you'll have to buy the full version. Even so, if you need to recover over 1 GB be sure this product will really worth the money spent.
